QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS Below are questions along with the responses towards the 2018 RFP process
Q. How will awards be made? A. A Proposal review committee has been put together consisting of early childhood stakeholders in the city of Boston. This group of parents, providers from communities and systems will review the proposals with a comprehensive score sheet. The recommendations will be shared with FNC as the lead agency and the final 9 neighborhoods will be decided.
Q. For agencies currently involved in the CFCE grant, is existing neighborhood performance taken into consideration in the rating system? A. Yes, for currently involved neighborhood agencies, the year performance of 2017-2018 is taken into consideration based on the reports, etc. Q. How do we calculate Indirect costs? A. Indirect costs are calculated on expenses and not the total grant amount. However, for using this line item in the budget document, applicant must submit a copy of their approval letter from the federal Department of Health and Human Services. Your calculation in that box must not exceed more than 4% of the total amount of the expenses.
Q. Is childcare an allowable expense? A. Yes, childcare for family engagement activities and family workshops is an allowable expense.
Q. Are we able to count Family Child Care Providers in our numbers when conducting outreach? A. The focus of this grant is to reach families that are not engaged in the mixed delivery childcare system (i.e. licensed center based child care, licensed family child care).Outreach efforts should be focused on children that are at home with their parents or being cared for by a family member or nanny.Our programs and training should not be directed to early educators or family childcare providers
Q.Are gift cards as incentives for families an allowable expense? A. No, gift cards ARE NOT an allowable expense under this grant. Grantees are encouraged to give incentives to families that are educational in nature (i.e. books, activities that families and children can do collaboratively).
Q. Are MBTA Charlie cards an allowable expense? A. Yes, Charlie cards are an allowable expense and can be listed under the travel line.
